Moderately difficult hike with about 4-5 hours of pure walking time. 16, 2 km length. 830 metres altitude difference.
On the morning of 3 September 2023, the weather did not seem inviting enough for a mountain tour. But in the course of the morning the weather improved and we decided to do a medium mountain tour in the surrounding area. We took the hiking bus from the Grafenberg valley station in Wagrain to the centre of Kleinarl. The well-signposted trail starts between the Kleinarl parish church and the vicarage and leads up to the Steinkaralm below the imposing Ennskraxn.
The splendidly situated Steinkaralm offers a good place to stop for refreshments with products from the alp and the farm such as cheese, sausages, bacon and buttermilk. Our hike continued to the Weissenhofalm, which promises tasty specialities as well as drinks from the region with a fantastic view.

At the Weissenhofalm you decide how you want to continue the hike. On the one hand, you have the option of walking from here via Gasthof Glasbauer back to the starting point in Kleinarl to take the bus back to Wagrain. Buses run at least hourly during the day to Wagrain or St. Johann im Pongau. Or you can take the beautiful high-altitude trail via Mooskarkopf and Saukarkopf back towards Griessenkareck and descend from Wagrainer Haus or Kogelalm to Wagrain.
We decided on the middle option and first walked towards Schüttalm and then on the forest road through the Baierwald at about medium altitude out of the valley back to Wagrain. We made the descent via the Obervierteckbauernhof.
…and back through the Baierwald forest to Wagrain.
