Mountain biking in one of the most beautiful bike regions in Austria

The trail is the goal – enjoy an extensive MTB trail network in the Salzburger Sportwelt

The extensive MTB trail network in the Salzburger Sportwelt, with its 7 summer sports resorts of Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos, covers a good 500 kilometres. Our region impresses with its enormous biking expertise, variety and unrivalled range of services. Designated tours to download, relaxed hosts and cool guides ensure that mountain bikers literally ‘experience’ the region in the most beautiful way. One of the flagships is the ultimate bike challenge ‘Stoneman Taurista’, which leads through the Salzburger Sportwelt with around 123 km and around 4,500 metres in altitude.

Leisure cyclists and families can enjoy a relaxed ride over gentle hills and plains, while demanding riders can test their strength on the challenging altitude metres of the road bike tours and on the 25 specially signposted bike tours. The mountain bike routes were re-signposted in 2024 and are now identical throughout Salzburger Land.

Around 150 km of signposted (e-)mountain bike and e-bike routes are waiting to be discovered in Wagrain-Kleinarl alone. Regardless of whether you’re a hardy mountain biker or a leisurely e-biker, everyone will find their favourite route in Wagrain-Kleinarl. The mountain bike trails lead across lush green meadows and cool forests to mountain lakes and alpine huts. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views and a delicious snack on the mountain pastures.

Numerous road bike routes also lead from Wagrain-Kleinarl to the surrounding villages and valleys. No matter how many kilometres and metres in altitude you want to cover, there is the right tour for every road cyclist in Salzburger Land. Easy, medium and difficult road bike tours lead through varied, green landscapes and past picturesque lakes. A cycle tour to the Salzkammergut seems particularly worth mentioning.

The popular mountain bike overview map has just been printed and is available for you to pick up at the tourist office or here in the hotel with all the information brochures.

For your online planning, you can find the most beautiful (e-)bike tours in the region here, because planning and preparation are half the battle. Even when biking. Simply filter by type – then nothing stands in the way of your tour planning:

Mountain biking is one of the most beautiful things you can do in the mountains of SalzburgerLand. To ensure that we are travelling safely and in harmony with nature and do not cause any damage to the flora and fauna, there are a few rules that must be followed. So that future generations can still be guests in the marvellous natural surroundings.

  • Use of the bike trails is permitted from 1 May to 15 November at your own risk, subject to twilight hours.
  • Please only use the marked routes.
  • Forestry roads are operating areas. Expect wood on the carriageway, grazing livestock and vehicle traffic.
  • Pay particular attention to pedestrians and motor vehicles.
  • Reduce your speed in blind or dangerous places.
  • Your bike must be appropriately equipped (bicycle definition according to StVO) and the bikes must be suitable for the route in question.
  • Helmets are compulsory for children up to the age of 12 – but it makes sense for all bikers.
