Open Garden Day in the province of Salzburg 2024

On Sunday 30 June 2024, 45 gardens in the country opened their doors to garden enthusiasts

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Provincial Association for Fruit Growing, Gardening and Landscape Conservation, this year’s focus was on ‘Nature in the Garden’ gardens. The garden, actually a private paradise, was opened by 45 garden owners on this day for interested gardening enthusiasts. Looking beyond your own garden fence broadens your gardening horizons enormously, brings new ideas and is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people. The selection of gardens reflects a broad spectrum of garden culture in our country. A lively exchange of ideas and experiences between garden lovers was at the centre of this campaign.

We also took part in this event organised by the Salzburg Provincial Association for Fruit Growing, Gardening and Landscape Conservation and were delighted to welcome over 40 interested garden visitors. The weather also played along on this Sunday. It wasn’t too hot, clouds kept moving across the sky, but the dreaded rain didn’t come until after the event had finished.

We spent days trying to get the garden in optimum condition for the visitors. Finally, almost everything was ready. The lawns were freshly mown, most of the edges had been cut back, the flowerbeds had been weeded and many of the plants had been labelled with plug-in cards. On Sunday morning, we distributed the garden furniture and provided refreshments for the visitors, who fortunately arrived diligently from 10 a.m. onwards. In many conversations, we also introduced our visitors to our new garden section project. This spring, we expanded our garden by around 700 square metres and started planting. An exciting project for the next few years, of which we can only guess at the moment, because it has to grow first.

Here are some impressions of our garden that we took that day:
