The Good Travel Seal rewards and confirms our sustainability efforts
This spring we decided to undergo the process of certification for the Good Travel Seal from Green Destinations. Despite the small size of our tourism business with only five beds, certification was an important personal concern for us. The whole preparation for the audit opened our eyes to the complexity of the matter and the many sides of sustainability. We saw where we were already doing well, but also where we still had and still have some need for action. With the certification, our efforts to improve sustainability are not over.
The Good Travel Seal is more than just a certification, it is a sustainability management programme for all tourism and travel-related businesses and facilities, designed to be feasible and affordable, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
This eco-label is based on two pillars:
- Sustainability
- Health and safety
The Good Travel certification focuses on practical requirements that are easy for smaller companies to manage. The Good Travel Seal standard consists of 57 general criteria in the areas of environmental management, social responsibility, health and safety, as well as a variety of additional industry-specific criteria. As a certified company, we received the seal, a certificate and a scorecard.
The scorecard shown below shows us very well where we stand. Where we still have to make an effort. It illustrates that sustainability is not an outcome, but a journey to be embarked on. It is a long and sometimes arduous process, but one that is worthwhile.
We are definitely pleased that Oberleiten Apartments is now one of the certified establishments in Wagrain-Kleinarl and thus makes an important contribution to the sustainable development of the destination Wagrain-Kleinarl.
